Middle School (Grades 6, 7, & 8)

Growing in our faith and friendships through service and fellowship events.

Connecting Kids to God and Each Other

Middle School ministry is a way for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to enjoy fun events, participate in important service opportunities, and enjoy fellowship with peers and mentors. Junior High Alive (JHA) activities include retreats, and social events. For service projects we have Adopt-a-Grandparent and other monthly opportunities. Middle School ministry coordinates with Confirmation and Chancel Choir regularly. At church we hope middle school students begin to grow deeper in their faith and form deeper friendships that will strengthen and sustain them through school and beyond! These are the years when Mount Olivet starts to really feel like your church home.

6th Grade Starter - Faith Formation

This program, specifically designed for our 6th graders, meets Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm from late September until end of April at both campuses. Through a mixture of small and large group sessions, 6th graders will:  build relationships with each other, strengthen relationships with their pastors and youth staff, practice praying, learn more about the Bible, and of course have fun! One of the big faith milestones is receiving your First Communion. We’ve incorporated First Communion instruction into this program and this spring families will be invited into learning with their 6th graders. 6th Grade Starter sets the stage for Confirmation as a 7th grader. 6th Grade Starter begins Wednesday, September 25.

Confirmation Grades 7 & 8 - Faith Formation

The Confirmation program at Mount Olivet allows 7th and 8th graders to grow stronger in their faith, which is rooted in their baptismal promises. In Confirmation, your child will learn to read and interpret the Bible and learn more about what it means to live as a Christian according to the Lutheran tradition. They will build important relationships with their peers, Mount Olivet Pastors, Youth Staff, and small group leaders. This is the season of life when their faith really starts to become their own!

Confirmation includes weekly meetings (Mpls and West Wednesdays 7-8pm and Mpls Sundays 8:45-9:45am) as well as a retreat and camping experiences, and the Confirmation worship service (also called the affirmation of Baptism) at which your child will be officially confirmed. The Confirmation service takes place in September of their 9th grade school year.

If you have questions about Confirmation, please contact, Angie St. Dennis at angelas@mtolivet.org or 612.767.2244.

Adopt-a-Grandparent (AGP) - Service Project

Adopt-a-Grandparent (AGP) is a junior high service project for 7th & 8th Grade Confirmation students. Every other Monday we meet at the Mount Olivet Home and participate with the residents in intergenerational activities. Activities include bingo, pet night, craft nights, Thanksgiving service & the MN Zoomobile. Through these activities the residents and youth form relationships and a chance to enjoy one another’s company.
