The Prodigal Son, our sermon text for March 24, is one of the best-known parables, and one most people either love or find deeply troubling. It also has been the subject of countless artists through the ages, each bringing unique personal and cultural viewpoints to their work as you will learn in this fascinating class led by Dr. Paul Daniels, archivist for Luther Seminary’s extensive Prodigal Son Collection. Using images from the collection that spans more than 400 years, Dr. Daniels will help us explore biblical messages of alienation and restoration in the story as depicted by artists from around the world. As you see and learn how people of different times, cultures, and ages have perceived this story, you almost certainly will widen your own perspective — and hear it again on the 24th with “new ears”!
