Summer Preview

Just before writing this article, I was out shoveling snow after the second April snowstorm! Yet even amid the colder-than-average temps and unusual amount of spring snow, I still know that spring is coming and, this year especially, summer is not far behind. With that in mind, here are a few notes on what you can expect at Mount Olivet this summer:

Our Summer Worship Schedule begins Memorial Day Weekend, Sunday, May 27. Services at the Minneapolis Campus will be at 9, 10 & 11am and the West Campus at 9 & 10am, with communion services at 8:30am at both campuses.

Summer Communion Sundays at both campuses are June 17, July 15, and August 19 with communion served during all worship services.

Mount Olivet will lead Outdoor Worship at the Lake Harriet Band Shell on Sunday, June 10, at 10am. We are one of 25 faith communities around the Twin Cities who are participating in the “Celebrate Summer Sundays.” Walk, bike, rollerblade, bring your dog, and join us. I will be preaching and our Minneapolis & West Cathedral Choirs will be singing.

Our Wednesday Midweek Summer Worship at the Conference & Retreat Center begins June 13 and Prayer & Praise at Minneapolis will conclude May 23 before taking a summer hiatus. The theme for the Midweek Summer services is “Life Changing Stories,” and every week will include an opportunity for a delicious meal, nature talk, and worship with one of your Mount Olivet pastors. See information below for more details.

If you’re visiting the beautiful north shore of Minnesota, you are welcome to attend Chapel at Cathedral of the Pines. “Sing When the Day Is Bright” each evening at 7:30pm and worship Sunday mornings at 10am overlooking our beloved Caribou Lake.

When you are away on Sundays this summer, don’t forget that you can live stream the 11am service at the Minneapolis Campus online here. You also may listen to the sermons from either (or both!) campuses; they are placed on the website early the following week.

Speaking of summer sermons: I will be offering an “occasional sermon series” on Going Deeper in Worship that explores various elements of our worship service, hoping to make our worship experience more meaningful and enjoyable. Elements we’ll explore include: The Invocation, The Confession and Absolution, The Kyrie, The Creed, The Sermon, and The Benediction. Look for more details in the June Messenger

I look forward to seeing you at church throughout these months!

Life Changing Stories

Midweek Summer Worship 2018
Mount Olivet Conference & Retreat Center

Plan to join us each Wednesday evening from June 13 to August 1 for an evening of fellowship, great food, enjoyment of nature, and inspirational worship. In keeping with our summer worship theme, Life Changing Stories, each week’s presiding pastor will share a favorite Bible story and the impact it has had on his or her own life. We are delighted, too, that all four of our wonderful Mount Olivet organists will be with us this summer. You won’t want to miss any of these special evenings. Bus transportation will be available from both campuses and 7500 York.
