Resolutions or Not?

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

– Romans 12:2

As the calendar turns over to another year, most people start thinking about what they did or didn’t do the past year, and what they would like for the New Year to bring. Some people make resolutions or goals. Others might simply spend some time in prayerful meditation consulting God for what’s next. Whatever your personal habits and spiritual disciplines might be, thank goodness we have the Bible as a key tool for guidance and wisdom. My hope is that we use our Bibles more readily in 2016!

I wonder what it would look like if we would be willing to ask God to help us carve out some time as we seek what God’s will is for our lives? All this is to say, sometimes we may not really know what is best for us … we may think it best to get up early to exercise, but maybe for a day the best self-care is that you sleep in. May God direct our thinking to live out his will to the best of our ability. Thy will be done. Amen.
